After a few days of search, I found the following ways to access twitter on my Nokia Symbian phone.

The easiest way is to visit http://wkg.me and input your twitter account information. After that, you will have an quite intuitive interface to do your normal tweets.

Using http://twittermail.com and register your twitter account. After that, you can send a tweet to your secret email account suffixed by @twittermail.com. But for users from China, one needs to climb over G.F*W to visit the twittermail site.

Install the application Mobitile on the phone and send tweets from it. I put it at the bottom of the list because I don’t like its ads and keyboard operations — especially its slow flash interface.

You can find more mobile phone applications for twitter at Twitter Fan Wiki.

I wonder how long will this continue… Last Sunday I helped my relatives to buy two apartment suites in the peripheral area of Xiamen, and it was not an enjoyable shopping experience.

We went there at 7:30 a.m in the morning and only managed to meet the sales representative at about 11:00 am. In less than two minutes, we decided to buy two sets and rushed to the counter for the paperwork and deposit.
Everyone around me appeared eager to buy and the atmosphere was nothing short of feverishness. The media people came and there were two police cars in the scene. One of the security guards told me some people began to queue up from previous night.

There was a strange festivity in the air and everyone seemed to have a party. But the real winner is the real estate sharks.

I consider this is very abnormal and the real estate companies are making obscene amount of money out of the pocket of common wage earners. How long will this last? I am not sure, but so far the bubble is still growing, at least in Xiamen.

(photo shows people queuing up to buy the apartments)

I previously used QuickProxy addon for Firefox but found that it failed to load Youtube for me. Today I changed my proxyfier into FoxyProxy and it solved all my problems. Here is a brief tutorial of how to use it under Firefox.

After installing it, you need to add a proxy server. Here I conviently named the profile ‘Beyond the Wall”.

Next step is putting in the address of the proxy server. I use a ssh tunnel between the localhost and the remote host, so the address here is 127.0.0.1 and the port I designated under putty is 9000. Be sure to select “SOCKS proxy?” otherwise the page won’t load.

I don’t want to use this tunnel for all the sites, so I need to tell FoxyProxy to only proxify sites I want. Still under the new proxy server interface, add the patterns for the sites to visit:

I don’t know if configuring using this is totally secure and anonymous or not. If you know better ways to use ssh tunnel and Firefox, tell me.

Now I have a new perspective of what happiness is: it is more dependent on what you don’t have than what you have and plan to have.

In many situations, the state of self-contentment and peace of mind is the best thing one can get in this world. Simple things such as eating and sleeping can become so scarce and valueable for people who are in a difficult situation. Always be grateful for the simple happiness in our daily life, and value it.

It seems the motto below just fits this post:

Empty what is full, and fill what is empty

Hiren’s BootCD is easily rankings itsself among the best boot cds and system maintainance tools. I have configured it to run both from my USB stick or directly from hard disk. Here is how to boot Hiren’s BootCD from the hard disk using text for dos (text4dos).

The first step is getting text4dos and release the GRLDR, text.exe and MENU.lst to the root directory of C:

Open the ISO file of Hiren’s BootCD using Daemon Tools or Winimage and extract the directory HBCD to the root directory of C:

Edit MENU.lst and put the following code into it:

timeout 30
default 0

title Start Hiren's BootCD
find --set-root /HBCD/boot.gz
map --mem /HBCD/boot.gz (fd0)
map --hook
chainloader (fd0)+1
rootnoverify (fd0)
map --floppies=1
boot

Edit the boot.ini file under C: and put the following line into it. This will make Windows load text4dos, and then text4dos will load Hiren’s boot file to boot it.

C:\GRLDR="Hiren"

You can also boot the mini WinXP in the HBCD directory by adding the following code into the MENU.lst file.

title Mini Windows Xp
find --set-root /HBCD/XPLOADER.BIN
chainloader /HBCD/XPLOADER.BIN

After the modificiations, reboot the system to use your Hiren’s BootCD from the hard disk. Becaues the boot.gz under HBCD does does not come with ntfs drivers, this method only works when C: is in FAT32 format.

I am no economist, but I can make a few predictions of China’s economic situation in 2010. As a common consumer and wage earner, I see into my wallet and make the following economic forecast:

House prices will NOT fall down. The last thing the government wish to see is massive bank insolvency due to slump in real estate prices. It will try everything to save the cash cow while not inflate the market so much to burst the bubble. The house price will remain stable.

The age of inflation has come. The cost of protecting the real estate market is steady rise of inflation rate. More money will be printed to make up for the staggering house prices, and consequently the cost of living will rise together with the price of commodities for livelihood.

Hopefully, the printed money will flow more into the pockets of the grass people who are the engine of the economy. If left with shrinking savings and no reliable social safety network, the damaged engine will cause the economy to collapse.

So the key of all economic problems in China depends on one thing: if the mass population in the bottom of the social pyramid can restart the engine and keep it running.

I will see what happens next year.
