I read from cnbeta a post which rounded up a few free VPN services. Some VPNs on the list are located in China, which basically renders these services useless to pass the Great Firewall of China.
Among the list of five VPN choices, I recommend to you a Sweden VPN service Relakks. After registering and supply some basic information, you can create a VPN link with the service address pptp.relakks.com, and surf the Internet very fast. Sourceforge.net is now unblocked by the G.F.W of China, and netizens from the mainland can now visit this largest repository of Opensource with little hassle. The site of Notepad++ is also left untouched by the seemingly impenetrable “Wall”, and its almost blasphemous attitude toward the Holy Olympic Games is visible to the people from the Mainland China. However, the original picture of five interlaced handcuffs on the site of Notepad++ is gone.

As of June 25, 2008, sourceforge.net is no longer accessible in the mainland China. I noticed this when I tried to file a bug report to my favorite task management application Task Coach. Then I realized that the headquarters of Open Source Software is blocked again.
It took me a while to figure out why this pure technical, IT related site is blocked by the Great Fire Wall (GFW):
